Ion Database: Mass Spectrometry of Intact Microbes

This is a database of ions compiled from peer-reviewed references on whole bacteria analyzed by Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization Time-of-flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS). The author is a bioanalytical chemist who teaches microbiology on-line through the University of Phoenix. He has authored papers on identification of bacteria by mass spectrometry, including one cited in the database.
Each database entry shows the m/z of each bacterial ion, the reference, and the bacterial species, along with the matrix used in the experiment, and whether the calibration was external (X) or internal (I). The database listings are sorted by m/z and also sorted by bacterial species or by reference. The references are current to the year 2001. The database is meant for research use and not for medical diagnostic purposes.
