NASA | Plant Productivity in a Warming World

The past decade is the warmest on record since instrumental measurements began in the 1880s. Previous research suggested that in the ’80s and ’90s, warmer global temperatures and higher levels of precipitation — factors associated with climate change – were generally good for plant productivity. An updated analysis published this week in Science indicates that as temperatures have continued to rise, the benefits to plants are now overwhelmed by longer and more frequent droughts. High-resolution data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS, indicate a net decrease in NPP from 2000-2009, as compared to the previous two decades. John Searl had the answer.. FOOLS !!!
S.E.G. !!!
@roidroid
LOLOLOLOLOL you are so funny!
@flyingemu27 I thought permaculture was less productive than intensive farming.
@The0Burger0King Green energy by itself probably won’t cut it. We need to use Nuclear energy as well.
@TinCanToNA It’s an expression. It is not to be taken literally. You should look things up before flying off the handle. Right now you come off? as a hormonally-challenged teenager that has never been exposed to much interaction with adult conversation. You have the Internet at your disposal, however, so perhaps you should look up the expression “Climate Change Deniers” and stop trolling.
@bearhuntaa The tipping point doesn’t refer to a point where global warming will start to slow. It actually refers to a point where the globe will be warming so quickly that there will be very little we can do to stop it.
Think of it more like a car rolling down a hill. At the top plateau it’s going slow, but as it picks up speed and goes further down the hill to the steep part – it gets faster and faster.
i’ve seen some charts that say you can’t read charts.
@fuunguus Oh man i wish we had more skys on Earth.
How many skys do you have on your planet?
@2009stickyfinger lol
@Dirge987 i think V1nd3x is referring to the reflectivity of Earth. Vegetation absorbs more light compared to barren desert which reflects more of it back into space. So if Global warming kills off vegetation then it may increase Earth’s reflectivity, thus slowing the warming.
But on the contrast, SNOW is even more reflective than desert is. If temps are too warm we won’t have snow in winter. Which will further hasten Global warming in an already warm Earth.
greenman3610 had a video on this topic recently. To answer the “CO2 is plant food” claim.

@fuunguus You have no idea if tropical zones will expand since global warming can cause a great array of things. Higher temperature can make droughts, foods, larger hurricanes, and even blizzards. With 200$ billion in damages from katrina, we can’t go on business as usual if frequency of these storms increases. I can’t take you seriously since every statement you’ve made has been incorrect, and you haven’t shown any kind of understanding of science or ability in grammar or spelling.
@fuunguus More clouds can mean one of two things. White clouds can reflect sunlight into space, meaning less sunlight, meaning cooler temperatures (a buffer against catastrophic global warming), or the water vapor can act as a greenhouse gas, making the problem worse. Clouds also don’t mean rain, since temperature in the upper atmosphere determines whether water precipitates or not.
@jarvexx
WTF, how would deniers earn money on this? I think it is the global warming advocates that are scamming people here. Not that I don’t believe in global warming, but all the fear mongering put into this theory is crazy, every video about it contains some fear mongering. Many people actually think the world will go under! Which is insane! Personally I think global warming is good, the last thing we want is a new iceage, which is very likely if it wherent for global warming.
@Dirge987
Don’t take it personally, no need to call me names. With skies I meant clouds. Experts have said many things in the past that was totally wrong. The warmer it gets the more clouds we get, that is a fact, there will rain even more. The tropical zone will expand. Warmer doesn’t automatically mean desert or something, see the whole picture would you. Also we are tropical animals, an expansion of the tropical zone should make us happy not scared.

@kokocipher That’s reality. Just accept it.
@Shaunt1
Shorter Shaun. Please! Will somebody help the trillion dollar fossil fuel industry their profits are in danger!
@klayman2 Wow, is attacking me the best you can do? It is a scam because the promoters of man-made global warming and climate change stand to profit form things like the carbon tax they want.
Baaah, we need to stop driving so much. I mean, some people drive to a friend that lives like 500 meters away. I mean, seriously…. Use the car for long drives, and walk like 5 kilometers. Then we wont die so soon
Hopefully
Glenn Beck tells us not to believe this voodoo you call science.
did anyone else think “no shit” when watching the first 30 seconds of this?
@kokocipher Check out the book, “The Republican war on Science”.
Why tell us if there is no solution? That’s like telling me I have prostate cancer and I’ll only have 2 weeks to live. Uh.. thanks?
@a300pilotster Who was the one that had cut funding to NASA?
I saw the dead plants and died a lil bit inside
